Figuring out the future can be frustrating, especially for a college senior: whether or not to go to grad school, what to study in grad school, what grad schools to consider, and what prerequisites do I need to take to get into the programs I’m looking at? And these are only questions considering the education I need to get into the field I feel called to work in! Who knows how many frustrating decisions concerning the future there will be once I get into the field? Trying to figure out my future has been quite the journey, and I have only scratched the surface. I have spent so much time in prayer these past couple of months simply begging God to reveal His plan to me, expecting Him to just spill it all out at once. But little by little and over and over, God has proven to me that I do not need to know the details of His plan or the details of my future, but that I must trust in Him because He knows exactly what is going to happen and it will all be according to His will.
Something that God has been teaching me is that His plan is perfect and that He is in complete control during the times when everything seems to be spinning out at 200 miles per hour or when I feel overwhelmed with things going on in my life. I need not worry because God knows exactly what He is doing. Of course, this does not mean I don’t worry sometimes or stress about how my life is going to turn out, but it gives me some peace of mind and reassures me that this is all according to God’s divine will. Over the past couple of weeks I have been doing so much research for grad programs and praying over and over that God will lead me in the right direction. I have been trying to organize when and where to take certain prerequisites in order to graduate on time. But you know what, it will all work out according to His plan! I must simply continue to work hard, pray that He will lead me, and trust in His will.
And guess what! God has already been answering prayers! Between things going on in my home life, my personal life, and my college/educational life, little miracles and answered prayers have been popping up everywhere! I encourage you to stop worrying. Whatever your troubles are, great or small, God is using the experience to shape you into His likeness. He uses our sufferings, testings and frustrating decisions to conform us into His image and aid us in developing Christ-like character. You need not worry about the future. Put your trust in Him.
Philippians 4:6-7 “Be careful for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God which passeth all understanding shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”
